Anne Arundel County police were investigating the death of a Pasadena boy who was found shot in the head last night in a wooded area near his home.

Responding to a 911 call, officers found Jared Sala, 15, of the 300 block of N. Carolina Ave. about 20 feet from the 200 block of Maryland Ave. in the Lake Shore section of Pasadena at 5: 25 p.m., Lt. Jeff Kelly, a police spokesman, said.

Kelly said the boy, a student at Chesapeake High School, was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he died about an hour later.

Kelly said a .38-caliber handgun, believed to be the weapon used, was found near the boy.

He said police last night were unsure if the death was a homicide or if the wound was self-inflicted.

"At this point, they just don't know," Kelly said.
