1996 Venezia Bianco Nuovo Mondo, Northern Sonoma County...

Wine of the week

November 11, 1998|By Michael Dresser

1996 Venezia Bianco Nuovo Mondo, Northern Sonoma County ($20). This classy, full-bodied dry white wine, a blend of sauvignon blanc and semillon, is worthy of a special occasion. Its complex mix of flavors includes peach, pear, herbs and just the right touch of new oak. It finishes with a pleasant, minty bite. The best matches for this wine would be chicken in a creamy sauce, salmon or swordfish. Yes, the price is a bit high for everyday consumption, but we are getting into the gift-giving season, aren't we?
