Maryland housing agency receives national award

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development has received a 1998 Award for Program Excellence from the National Council of State Housing Agencies.

The department beat out 22 other states to take top honors in the "Homeownership: Empowering New Buyers" category.

"Forty at Four," Maryland's winning program, provides $40 million at a 4 percent interest rate for potential buyers to use in older neighborhoods with declining homeownership rates or in need of revitalization.

Witman succeeds Marsiglia as Realtors president

Marc Witman was installed as president of the Greater Baltimore Board of Realtors on Tuesday during a luncheon at Woodholme Country Club in Pikesville.

GBBR Realtor of the Year and an agent with Long & Foster Real Estate Inc., Witman succeeds outgoing President Gilbert D. Marsiglia, owner/broker of Gilbert D. Marsiglia & Co. Inc.

Also taking office were: Patrick Welsh of O'Conor, Piper & Flynn ERA, president-elect; Patrick J. Kane of Coldwell Banker Grempler Realty Inc., vice president; and Alan Ingraham of MNC Mortgage, treasurer.

Elected to two-year terms as directors were: Abraham Joshua, Re/Max Suburban West; Judy Morris, O'Conor, Piper & Flynn ERA; James S. Leanos, Casey & Associates/ONCOR; David McIlvaine, O'Conor, Piper & Flynn ERA; Helaine Frankel, Long & Foster Real Estate; Carole Glick, Fiola Blum Inc.; Stephen Campbell, Steve Campbell Realty Co.; and Melvin Knight, O'Conor, Piper & Flynn ERA.
