NASCAR: Agreed to multi-year contract with CBS Sports to extend broadcast rights of Craftsman Truck Series.


Braves: Triple-A Richmond named Randy Ingle manager.

Cubs: Promoted GM Ed Lynch to VP-GM. Named David Wilder assistant GM, Jim Hendry director of player development and scouting, Scott Nelson director of baseball operations and John Stockstill coordinator of scouting.

Diamondbacks: Named Bob Miller assistant director of scouting, effective Nov. 1.

Dodgers: Declined to exercise $5.6 million option on P Ramon Martinez, buying out his contract for $600,000 instead. Declined to exercise $1.4 million option on OF-IF Jim Eisenreich, buying out his contract for $200,000.

Giants: Exercised $3 million option on 1B J. T. Snow. Declined $1.4 million option on P Osvaldo Fernandez, buying his contract out for $400,000. Named Sonny Jackson third base coach and Ron Wotus bench coach.

Phillies: Exercised $3 million option on P Mark Leiter. Declined $2.3 million option on P Mark Portugal, buying his contract out for $300,000. Declined $6 million option on OF Lenny Dykstra. Extended contract of director of scouting Mike Arbuckle through 2001. Named Steve Noworyta director of minor-league operations.

Red Sox: Declined to exercise contract option on P Steve Avery. Exercised $750,000 option on P Jim Corsi.

Rockies: Declined to exercise $2.15 million option on C Kirt Manwaring.


Trail Blazers: Promoted Mark Warkentien from director of scouting to assistant GM. Named Herb Livsey scout.


ECAC: Named Navy QB Brian Broadwater Rookie of the Week.

Mountain West Conference: Name announced by following schools, which broke away from Western Athletic Conference: Colorado State, Air Force, Brigham Young, UNLV, New Mexico, San Diego State, Utah and Wyoming.

Louisville: Suspended F Nate Johnson for first two games of season after his arrest outside a nightspot last weekend.

Syracuse: Reinstated CB Ian McIntosh to football team.


Packers: Claimed DB Rod Smith off waivers from Panthers. Waived DB Juran Bolden.


NHL: Named Maple Leafs C Mats Sundin Player of the Week.

Blackhawks: Recalled RW Craig Mills. Recalled RW-D Denis Bonvie.

Capitals: Recalled C James Black and RW Craig Mills from IHL Chicago.

Mighty Ducks: Assigned C Matt Loen to UHL Madison.

Penguins: Activated G Tom Barrasso from IR.

Predators: Re-assigned G Eric Fichaud to IHL Milwaukee. Recalled G Tomas Vokoun from Milwaukee.
