A 17-year-old high school student was sexually assaulted Friday morning on an Ellicott City bike path, where she was taking a walk during a school vacation day.

The girl, who was walking alone, was attacked by a man who approached her at 11: 30 a.m. in the 4000 block of Lark Spring Row in Dorsey Hall, said Howard County police.

"The suspect put a ski mask over her head and a bandanna around her mouth and forced her to the ground," said Sgt. Morris Carroll, the department's spokesman. "The victim fought back and was able to get away."

She described the assailant as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium build and brown hair. Carroll said officials believe this incident is not related to a sexual assault Oct. 8 at Lake Elkhorn.
