BETHESDA -- Pat Tallent and Tim Vigotsky, a pair of Northern Virginia residents, combined on a 5-under-par 65 yesterday for a 36-hole total of 133 and a three-stroke lead in the annual Congressional CC Fourball tournament.

In the companion Senior division, Mike Sanger of Green Spring and Jack Vardaman of Congressional shot 65 from the gold tees jTC (6,200 yards), and took a seven-stroke lead with 132 after two rounds.

The championship leaders, playing the course at 6,600 yards, broke away from the field with five successive birdies to start the back nine and ended with 35-30 against a par of 35-35.

Vigotsky had three of the birdies on short putts and Tallent two, including a curling 10-foot putt.

Two teams were tied at 136, followed by the Baltimore County entry of Joe Records and Tim Dilli, 69-68137.

"We had a team effort," Vardaman said of the leading Senior pair. "Mike was really solid, and it is so much easier for me to play when he is in every hole." They have had one bogey in 36 holes.
