Senior center hopes to harvest health

MOUNT AIRY SENIOR Center will hold a Harvest Health Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Free health screenings will be offered from 9 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m. for people age 55 and older. Health evaluations and information will be available from a dentist, physical therapist, chiropractor, podiatrist and dietitian.

Vision checks for glaucoma, blood sugar monitoring, weight evaluation, and eyeglass adjustments will be offered.

A health risk assessment and body composition analysis will be performed for $1.50 and participants can register for door prizes at information booths.

Flu shots will be given to people age 18 or older from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for $5 or Medicare.

Pneumonia shots will be offered from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to people age 60 or older. A doctor's prescription is required and the shot costs $15 or Medicare.

Lunch will be for sale in the center dining room from 11: 30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Information: 301-829-2407 or 410-795-1017.

Basketball registration

Winfield Recreation Council is seeking children in grades one through 10 for its basketball programs.

Cost is $40 per child with a $5 discount for each additional child in the family.

The season runs from November through March. Games are played at Winfield Elementary, South Carroll High or Linton Springs Elementary.

The girls travel basketball team is seeking girls ages 9 to 11 and 12 to 15 for its teams. Cost is $40 and teams play in Carroll County Girls' Basketball League. Information: 410-781-6542.

Winfield travel basketball

The Winfield Warriors will hold registration for boys travel basketball teams from 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow and Oct. 24 and 31 and from 7 p.m. to 8: 30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the lobby of South Carroll High School.

Boys in grades five and six, age 12 and younger, and boys in grades seven and eight, age 14 and younger, are invited to register. Cost is $40 and teams play in Carroll County Boys' Basketball League.

Volunteer coaches, assistant coaches and coordinators are needed. Information: 410-875-1339.

Shiver, shake

Children in grades one and up can register for the "Shiver and Shake" story time scheduled at 4: 30 p.m. Thursday at the Mount Airy public library. The program features scary stories about Halloween and Halloween lore.

All-day bingo

Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department will hold All-Day Bingo on Nov. 7. Tickets are $25 and are advance sales only.

The ticket includes cards for 64 games, two jackpots, a door prize ticket and a meal ticket. Doors open at noon and games start at 1 p.m. Information: 410-549-9476.
