Gifted-Talented conference scheduled Friday, Saturday

The 1998 Maryland State Conference for Gifted and Talented Education will be Friday and Saturday at Turf Valley Resort and Conference Center in Ellicott City. This year's theme is "From Potential to Performance: Best Practices in Gifted Education in Maryland."

Sessions are designed for parents and educators. Friday presenters include Carolyn Callahan from the University of Virginia and A. Skipp Sanders from the state Department of Education. Felice Kaufmann will present Saturday.

Elkridge Landing Middle wins school challenge award

Elkridge Landing Middle School has won the school challenge award at the Baltimore-Washington International Airport Walk/Run.

The school will receive 100 tickets to go on the Maryland Rail Commuter service train to Union Station in Washington.

Glenelg Country School schedules an open house

Glenelg Country School will hold an open house at 2 p.m. Sunday in the middle school building. The event is open to parents and students interested in the school and its programs.

The program will include a welcome from Headmaster Ryland O. Chapman III, a performance by upper school students, campus tours and meetings with school heads and teachers. The school is at 12793 Folly Quarter Road.
