2 organizations 'adopt' park, plan cleanups

Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks has announced that Elkridge Adult Athletic Association and Elkridge Youth Organization formally "adopted" Rockburn Branch Park on Sept. 19.

A maintenance agreement was signed, and an official Adopt-a-Park sign was unveiled at the ceremony.

The groups plan regular park cleanups, installation of a batting cage and refurbished bleachers.

The Recreation and Parks Department and Elkridge Adult Athletic Association will co-sponsor the seventh Haunted House & Hayride at the park from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 16, 23 and 30, and from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 17 and 24.

The cost is $6.

A "Not-So-Scary" Hayride, for children ages 2 to 7, will be offered from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 18 and 25.

The cost is $3.

School drama department will present fall show

The Centennial High School drama department will present its fall show, "Comings & Going" by Megan Terry, at 7: 30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the school, 4300 Centennial Lane, Ellicott City.

Tickets, which cost $5, can be purchased from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays at the school or reserved by calling 410-313-2856.

Waverly Elementary PTA schedules 9th Fall Festival

Waverly Elementary School PTA will hold its ninth Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdayon the school grounds, 10220 Wetherburn Road, Ellicott City.

Door prizes, food and carnival games are planned. Kangaroo Kids, Top Flight Gymnastics and Mount Hebron Marching Band will entertain.

Admission is free.
