Coppin's Pena out 6-8 weeks

October 02, 1998|By FROM STAFF REPORTS

Coppin State men's basketball player Dorian Pena underwent knee surgery yesterday and the senior forward/center is expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks.

Pena, the team's second-leading rebounder last season with 6.2 a game, suffered a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee during last week.

With the injury, Coppin could be down to nine scholarship players for the season opener against Fresno State on Nov. 13.

Freshman guard Rasheem Sims is recovering from surgery for a broken foot. Providence transfer Kofi Pointer (Southern-City) won't be eligible until late December.
