Elderly couple found dead in apparent suicide

An elderly couple were found dead in the garage of their Woodlawn home yesterday morning in what appeared to be a double suicide, Baltimore County police said.

William Earl Duncan, 80, and his wife of 52 years, Hazel Ruth Duncan, 82, were discovered sitting in their car by their son yesterday just before 11 a.m., said police spokesman Bill Toohey. The car was parked in the garage of the couple's home in the 6900 block of Dogwood Road.

"We found inside the house certain personal effects and papers to indicate to the family members what their intentions were," Toohey said.

"There was not a note, but all indications are that this was a double suicide."

Mrs. Duncan, who was in poor health, had been in a nursing home, but was brought home Sunday by her husband, Toohey said.

The deaths remained under investigation yesterday as police awaited a finding from the medical examiner, but Toohey said that the cause of death appeared to be carbon monoxide poisoning.
