Scottish Heritage Fair

Stroll among dozens of clan tents and get acquainted with your Scottish ancestry Saturday at the Scottish Heritage Fair at Fort Ward Park, Alexandria, Va. Enjoy pipers aplenty and Gaelic singing, pet baby Highland cows and black-faced sheep, and ride a Clydesdale horse-drawn wagon. Sip a Scottish ale, snack on Scottish burgers, listen to fiddlers and watch dancers all afternoon under the tall shade trees. Also, watch sleek Scottish deerhounds chase a fake deer, and get close to a trained falcon. And the best part of all, admission is "Scot free!"

Fair hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. The park is at 4301 W. Braddock Road, off Interstate 395. Call 703-883-4686.

Maryland Coast Day

Celebrate the biological diversity and economic significance of Maryland's coastal bays near Ocean City and Assateague Saturday at Assateague State Park. Also part of the day-long festivities are arts and crafts, live animal displays, air, sea and surf rescue demonstrations, wildfowl carving and mounds of food.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Assateague Island is on Route 611, off U.S. 50. Admission is free. Call 410-213-2297.
