Jane F. Choras, 67, book dealer

Jane F. Choras, a book dealer and former Pikesville resident, died of cancer Saturday at Lahey Hitchcock Clinic in Boston.

She was 67 and lived in Weston, Mass.

After earning a bachelor's degree in nursing from the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing and working at Hopkins Hospital, she moved to Boston during the late 1950s and was head emergency room nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital.

In 1962, she became an antiquarian book dealer, specializing in children's books and science fiction first editions.

The former Jane Forbes Wilgis was born in Roanoke, Va., and moved to Baltimore as a child.

A memorial Mass will be offered today in Weston Center, Mass.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Dr. Peter T. Choras, a psychiatrist; a son, Peter T. Choras Jr. of Natick, Mass.; a daughter, Leslie Choras of Weston; two brothers, Dr. E. F. Shaw Wilgis and Herbert E. Wilgis, both of Baltimore; a sister, Margaret J. Wilgis of Houston; and several nieces and nephews.

Jean H. Ferguson, 75, homemaker, civic activist

Jean H. Ferguson, a homemaker and civic activist, died Sept. 9 of complications from a stroke at Oak Crest Village in Parkville. She was 75.

The former Guilford resident was active for many years in the Baltimore Junior League, the League for Crippled Children and the Catholic Evidence League.

She was a communicant of the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Mary Our Queen and a founder of its library.

In 1966, she and her husband had a private audience with Pope Paul VI in the Vatican.

A native of New Orleans, the former Jean Hulin married Dr. W. Richard Ferguson Sr., an orthopedic surgeon, in 1941.

The couple moved to Baltimore during the late 1940s.

A memorial service will be held at 11: 30 a.m. Sept. 30 in the chapel at Oak Crest Village, 8820 Walther Blvd.

She is survived by her husband; a son, William R. Ferguson Jr. of Baltimore; and three daughters, Constance E. Ferguson of Baltimore, Cynthia K. Mernin of Bozeman, Mont., and Jean T. Dorsey of Washington.
