In a battle of ranked boys soccer teams, senior Brandon Quaranto scored three goals and added an assist to help host the Archbishop Curley Friars (1-0) blitz C. Milton Wright (3-1), 5-0.

Going into the game, Curley was ranked No. 4 in the metro area; the Mustangs stood at No. 14.

No. 5 Calvert Hall 1, Walt Whitman 0: Mike Pennacchia scored in the 69th minute to break a scoreless tie and gave Calvert Hall (3-0) a win over host Walt Whitman (0-1) at the Walt Whitman Invitational in Bethesda.

Sean White assisted on Pennacchia's goal.

Charlie Asch turned aside six shots for register the shutout.

No. 8 Oakland Mills 1, Hammond 0: Glenn Hayman's second-half goal on an assist by Brian Grund was decisive.

Chris Ebeling turned away three shots to post the shutout for the Scorpions (2-0).

Girls soccer

No. 4 John Carroll 2, No. 15 Loch Raven 0: Kim Karlinchak scored twice for the visiting Patriots (5-0), who outshot Loch Raven, 32-4.

No. 7 Fallston 3, Wilde Lake 0: The host Cougars (1-0-2) got goals from three players on the way to their first win after two ties.

No. 12 Hereford 2, Franklin 0: Paige Nichol had a goal and an assist as the Bulls (3-1) blanked the host Indians (1-2). Nichol and Melissa Mueller each had first-half goals.
