Phillies: Extended player development contract with short-season Single-A Batavia through 2000.

L Pirates: Affiliated with Single-A Hickory for 1999 and 2000.

Red Sox: Recalled OF Billy Ashley (right wrist injury) from Triple-A Pawtucket; placed him on 60-day DL.


Cardinals: Waived OT Jon Clark. Signed DE Carl Simpson to one-year contract.
