Jarvis C. Orr, 69, antiques collector

Jarvis C. Orr, an antiques collector, died of cancer Sept. 2 at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care. The longtime Ruxton resident was 69.

Mrs. Orr was highly respected for her knowledge of antique silver and often organized estate sales.

The former Jarvis Claypoole, a native of Guilford, graduated from Eastern High School in 1947 and, in 1950, earned an associate's degree from St. Mary's Seminary Junior College, now St. Mary's College of Maryland, in Southern Maryland.

In 1955, she married Robert V. Orr, an electrical engineer who died in 1970.

Mrs. Orr was a communicant and Sunday school teacher at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Boyce and Carrollton avenues, Ruxton, where a memorial service will be held at 10: 30 a.m. Saturday.

She is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth King and Kitson Roger, both of Lutherville, Lydia Redding of Ruxton and Kendall Kuhlmey of Bellerose, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.

Catherine M. Cohen, 67, communications specialist

Catherine M. Cohen, a retired FBI communications specialist and volunteer, died of cancer Saturday at St. Agnes HealthCare. The Ellicott City resident was 67.

She worked during the 1970s at the FBI's Woodlawn office. Earlier, she had taught first grade at Our Lady of Perpetual Help parochial school in Ellicott City and was the church organist.

The former Catherine Pless, who was born in West Baltimore, graduated from Western High School in 1948 and attended the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.

Mrs. Cohen was a longtime volunteer with the Howard County Adult Literacy Program.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Loudon Park Funeral Home, 3620 Wilkens Ave.

She is survived by her husband, Claude S. Cohen, whom she married in 1952; a son, Steven C. Cohen of Clarksville; a daughter, Laurie Beth Szoke of Chesapeake, Va.; a brother, Robert Pless of Brockton, Mass; and five grandchildren.

Memorial service set for John T. Ward

A memorial service for John T. Ward, 99, retired Evening Sun financial editor who died Feb. 20 at a nursing home in Portland, Ore., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Route 23, Madonna, Harford County.
