Hiskey, Adams lead qualifiers for U.S. Mid-Am

Peter Hiskey, of the Naval Academy Golf Club, and Joel Kaye, of Caves Valley Golf Club, were among seven players advancing to the U.S. Mid-Amateur championship from a 110-man field, as sectional qualifying was held at Westwood Country Club in Vienna, Va., yesterday.

Hiskey was the co-medalist at 71, sharing the honor with Mitch Adams, 41, of Cary, N.C. Hiskey, bolstered by three successive front-nine birdies, will be going for the second time.

Adams, going for the first time, highlighted his round by chipping for an eagle at the 489-yard, par-5 eighth hole.

Kaye birdied the 17th (184-yard 5-iron shot to three feet), and parred the 18th to make it. David Rasley, TPC-Avenel, hit 16 greens and shot 73, and Greg Bremer, Kenwood CC, celebrated his 40th birthday with a 74.
