Art federation photo show opens today in Annapolis

A photography exhibit with contemporary images, abstracts, and portraits opens today at the Maryland Federation of Art, Gallery on the Circle in Annapolis.

The eighth annual juried exhibition features color, black and white, and specially processed prints.

Juror Jan Howard, curator of prints, drawings and photographs at the Baltimore Museum of Art, selected 58 photos from more than 500 submitted by 159 photographers from the United States.

The exhibit runs through Oct. 11. The gallery at 18 State Circle is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and is wheelchair-accessible. An artist's opening reception is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 13.

Symphony travels

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra is on tour this weekend, offering free concerts in Annapolis and Pasadena.

On Saturday, it will visit Downs Park at the end of Mountain Road for an open-air concert at 6 p.m. with Leslie Dunner conducting selections from Strauss, Gershwin and others.

On Sunday, the ensemble will move to Quiet Waters Park, off Forest Drive near Annapolis, for another 6 p.m. concert that concludes the park's summer series.

Downs Park

The summer concert series at Downs Park in Anne Arundel County continues through the end of the month. The down-home blues sound of the Moonlighters takes the stage at 5 p.m. Sunday. Guests should bring a blanket or lawn chair and a picnic dinner for Blues on the Bay.
