Mariners: David Bell's single on the first pitch of the game was his first for Seattle. He went 0-for-3 in his debut with the team on Monday, the day he was traded by Cleveland. Jamie Moyer set a career high with 205 1/3 innings pitched. His previous high of 202 innings came in 1988.

Red Sox: Troy O'Leary extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

Tigers: Tony Clark sat out with a hyper-extended left elbow, an injury that occurred during pre-game practice. Frank Catalanotto started at first base in place of Clark, who was listed as day-to-day.
