Performers needed for 'Rent'

Hip and authentic singers are needed for "Rent." The producers for the smash-hit off-Broadway musical continue their search for actors for the New York production and all touring companies by holding open auditions from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 24 at Max's on Broadway, 737 S. Broadway in Fells Point. Sign-in starts at 8: 30 a.m.

The call is for equity and non-equity men and women of all ethnicities in their early to mid-20s. The casting directors are looking for rock-and-roll, R&B and gospel singers. Those auditioning should bring a photo and a resume and two rock/pop songs, 16 bars each -- but no musical theater songs. A piano accompanist is available. Dress is casual.

"Rent," which won the 1996 Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for drama, opens Sept. 29 and runs through Nov. 1 at the Morris A. Mechanic Theatre in Baltimore.
