Polka Beach Party

Enjoy the fun and merriment of a traditional Slovenian festival, including dancing, polka bands, sing-alongs, great food and barrels of beer, at a Polka Beach Party, today through Sunday at the newly renovated Convention Center in Ocean City. Featured bands include the Steve Meisner Orchestra, the Polka Quads, Fritz's Polka Band, Johnny D, and Lynn Marie Rink. Arts and crafts are part of the festival, and a polka Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Hours are 5 p.m. to 11: 30 p.m. today, 11: 30 a.m. to 11: 30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. The convention center is at Coastal Highway and 40th Street. Admission is $5 for Thursday and Sunday, $8 Friday-Saturday, under 10 free. Call 410-524-7020.

Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival

For a star-studded lineup of legendary and contemporary bluegrass artists, attend the 38th semi-annual Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival today through Sunday at Granite Hill Family Campground. The four-day event will be headlined by Grand Ole Opry stars Jim & Jessie and the Virginia Boys. Also performing will be Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Kathy Chiavola, Peter Rowan and the Green Grass Gringos, Del McCoury, the Seldom Scene, Gary Ferguson, the Dry Branch Fire Squad, the Lewis Family and other groups. Workshops, crafts, food and family activities also are part of the festivities.

The campground is at 3340 Fairfield Road. While camping is available on site, there's plenty of free day parking for non-camping ticket holders. The festival starts at 4 p.m. today, 11 a.m. Friday-Saturday, and 10 a.m. Sunday. Admission at the gate, cash only, is $70 for a four-day pass, $50 Saturday-Sunday pass, $15 Thursday, $25 Friday, $30 Saturday, $20 Sunday. A senior discount is available; children 12-16 are half price and free under 12. Call 800-642-8368.
