White Sox update

The Orioles are catching these guys at the right time. Chicago has lost six in a row, settling into fourth place in the AL Central. Comiskey hasn't been much of an advantage. They're 31-32 at home. Albert Belle is having an exceptional season, ranking among the league leaders in homers and RBIs. Just about everyone else would rather forget this year. Jaime Navarro (8-15, 6.28) never materialized as the staff's ace and was sent to the bullpen earlier this month. These teams haven't met since April. The White Sox have won three of five, including a 16-7 thrashing in Chicago on April 29. Mussina has faced them once, lasting only five innings April 16 in an 8-2 loss and going on the dis- abled list the next day with a wart on his right index finger. Frank Thomas is batting .438 (21-for-48) with six homers and 11 RBIs lifetime against Mussina. Belle also has been a tough out for Mussina, hitting .390 (16-for-41) with six homers and 10 RBIs. Belle torments all three Orioles starters in this series. He's RTC batting .419 (18-for-43) against Erickson, and .318 (14-for-44) with four homers against Guzman. Robin Ventura is hitting .400 (14-for-35) with 10 RBIs against Erickson. Here's one left-hander matchup that doesn't favor the Orioles: Ventura is hitting .538 (7-for-13) with three homers against reliever Jesse Orosco. (White Sox statistics, 6D)
