August 25, 1998

A Sykesville woman who was driving the car in which her boyfriend was killed in May was arrested on a criminal warrant specifying 15 charges, including manslaughter, homicide by motor vehicle by driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and driving while intoxicated.

Donna F. Cianci of the 4800 block of Cherry Tree Lane was freed on $25,000 bond Sunday.

According to court and police records, Cianci, 35, was driving a 1987 Ford Thunderbird north on Woodbine Road in Woodbine at 2: 17 a.m. May 5 when the car skidded on wet pavement south of Buckhorn Road and crashed into a porch and two trees.

The passenger, John Bruce Yelton, 26, of the 2100 block of W. Old Liberty Road in Taylorsville was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cianci, who then was living at the Taylorsville address, was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore in critical condition.

Prosecutors said then that they would await toxicology results before determining whether charges would be filed.

Cianci also was charged with traffic violations, including driving 53 mph in a 40-mph zone, reckless driving and negligent driving.

A trial date has not been set.
