A chance to line up venture capital

Organizers of the Mid-Atlantic Venture Fair, an annual gathering that brings companies together with venture capitalists, say there are spots left for companies that want to make presentations.

The fair, billed as the largest event of its kind on the East Coast, will take place Nov. 17-18 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. The event normally alternates between Philadelphia and Baltimore, though it was held in Tysons Corner, Va., last year.

Companies attending the fair make brief presentations in the hope of attracting start-up funds from the venture capitalists, bankers and other investors in attendance. The amount of capital sought is generally between $1 million and $10 million.

Last year's fair featured 50 presenting companies and drew about 600 would-be investors.

Mark C. Heil, a spokesman for the fair, said there are still spots open for fledgling ventures that want to be presenting or exhibiting companies at this year's event. The deadline for applications is Sept. 11.

The fair is sponsored by the Baltimore-based Mid-Atlantic Venture Association and the Greater Philadelphia Venture Group.
