August 22, 1998|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Police are investigating the fatal shooting Thursday of Kevin Brown of the 1700 block of Ashland Ave., said Officer Angelique Cook-Hayes, a police spokeswoman.

She said police found Brown, 18, lying in the street in the 2300 block of E. Monument St. in East Baltimore. He had been shot several times.

Witnesses said Brown was walking with friends along East Monument Street about 11: 45 p.m. Thursday. As they approached a sandwich shop near Patterson Park, a man wearing a black ski mask came out of an alley and fired into the group, Cook-Hayes said. She said no one else was injured.

Brown was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he died a short time later.

Police said they know of no motive for the shooting.
