Indians update

Free of any competition within their division, the Indians continue to shuffle toward the finish. They have lost six of their past 10 games, but remain the only AL Central club above .500. One of their top run producers, first baseman Jim Thome, is on the disabled list with a broken right hand. Catcher Sandy Alomar has 10 hits in his last 72 at-bats (.139), but third baseman Travis Fryman is batting .346 (36-for-104) over his past 28 games. The Indians' 4.24 ERA ranked third in the league before last night. Shortstop Omar Vizquel has made four errors in his past 31 games after committing one in his previous 125. The Orioles took three of four in Cleveland last week, squaring the season series at 4-4. Brady Anderson homered off Gooden, who allowed two runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings. Wright got the Indians' only win of the series, permitting three runs over seven innings Sunday night.
