August 19, 1998

An 18-year-old Hampstead man was arrested on drug charges after officers searched his apartment Monday and found suspected heroin in his bedroom, authorities said.

Stephen J. Leslie of the 4200 block of Crystal Court was being held at the Carroll County Detention Center in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Leslie was charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of heroin, possession of paraphernalia and maintaining a common nuisance.

In charging documents, Sgt. E. Russell Horne of the Hampstead Police Department said he witnessed a high number of people visiting the apartment but had sought the search warrant to look for tools reported stolen from neighborhood sheds.

Horne and Officer Clint Thorn served the warrant about 9: 30 p.m. and found suspected stolen items and seized capsules of suspected heroin, syringes and related paraphernalia, police said.

The investigation of the shed break-ins continues, Horne said.
