Joseph F. Hughes, 53, credit union vice president

Joseph F. Hughes, vice president of operations at the State Employees Credit Union, died Saturday at Johns Hopkins Hospital of an aneurysm. The Baltimore resident was 53.

Mr. Hughes graduated from Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School in 1962 and went to work at Schaeffer and Strohminger, an automobile dealer, in the mechanics and parts departments.

He joined the Army in 1966, served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968 and was discharged in 1970.

He then worked for National Cash Register Co. as a serviceman for computers and cash registers until 1976, when he joined the credit union as head of the data processing department. In 1992, he was named vice president of operations.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 8420 Belair Road in Fullerton.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, the former Jeanne Snyder; two daughters, Carey Hughes and Kelly Hughes, both of Baltimore; a brother, Edward Hughes of New Freedom, Pa.; and a sister, Mary Joanne Hughes Brasemle of Baltimore.

Harry J. O'Leary, 59, career military officer

Harry J. O'Leary, a retired career military officer, died Sundayof lung cancer at his Glen Burnie home. He was 59.

He enlisted in the Army in 1960 and served with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam in 1962. He returned to Vietnam for a second tour of duty in 1964 as an infantry officer.

Mr. O'Leary, whose decorations included the Bronze Star and Purple Heart, retired with the rank of major in 1983. From 1992 to 1997, he was night manager for Carl Messenger Service.

The native of Enterprise, Ala., earned a bachelor's degree from Trinity Christian College.

He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 7436 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd., where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11: 30 a.m. today.

He is survived by his wife, the former Rita Joyal, whom he married in 1981; two sons, Jeffrey O'Leary of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Steven Coccio of Columbia; a daughter, Barbara Walsh of Millersville; his father, Jack O'Leary of Jackson Gap, Ala.; his mother, Mary Julia DeGrot of Brewton, Ala.; a sister, Jackie Courtney of Brewton; and seven grandchildren.
