Ceramics and us

August 06, 1998|By John Dorsey

"Relationships" is the title of the work pictured here and the theme of ceramic artist Ray Chen's exhibit at Baltimore Clayworks.

Chen, from Taiwan, came to the United States in 1991 to study ceramics first at Ohio University and then at Rochester Institute of Technology.

This past year, he has been the Lormina Salter Fellow at Clayworks, and the result is the exhibit "Mother and Child," in which his pieces explore human interconnectedness. They also reflect the influences of Eastern and Western cultures on the artist.

At Baltimore Clayworks, 5706 Smith Ave., through Aug. 29, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. For information, call 410-578-1919.
