One woman was killed and three others, two of them children, were injured in a two-vehicle collision yesterday on a busy road in Towson, Baltimore County police said.

Diane Bredar, 40, of the 1200 block of Lime Kiln Road died after a truck broadsided her minivan at Dulaney Valley Road and Hampton Estate Lane, according to police. Bredar was turning left onto Dulaney Valley from Hampton when a truck driven by Donald Healey, 19, of the 2500 block of Ashton St. ran a red light about 9: 30 a.m., according to police.

The truck hit the driver's side door of Bredar's Mercury Villager. She was flown by helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she was pronounced dead. Healey was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was treated and released yesterday.

Bredar's sons, 7-year-old Thomas and 6-year-old Daniel, were taken to Sinai Hospital, where they were treated and released.

"The air bag deployed [in the minivan] but they're not designed to protect from the side," said Baltimore County police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Novak. All four people were wearing seat belts, he said.

No charges were filed in the accident yesterday, but police said the investigation would continue.

Yesterday's collision was the second accident at the busy intersection this year -- two vehicles ran a red light and collided on June 3, slightly injuring two people, Novak said.
