Crafts, games and stories for children in area church's vacation Bible school

FERNDALE UNITED Methodist Church, 117 Ferndale Road, is having vacation Bible school Aug. 10 to 14 at the church.

Crafts, games and Bible stories will be available for children. A light dinner will be served at 5 p.m., and classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Massage therapy

Mary Ann Roesler, a massage therapist, is offering five-minute massages to senior citizens Aug. 10 and 24 at Burwood Senior Housing, 6658 Shelly Road.

Participants will have a choice of head, foot, back or neck massage. There is no charge. Reservations are recommended.

The center is sponsoring a blood-pressure screening from 10 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m. Thursday.

Lions Club meeting

The Linthicum Lions Club will meet tomorrow at the home of John Watkins.

A covered-dish supper will be held at 6 p.m., followed by a business meeting and the induction of new member Sharon Wonder.

Herb club luncheon

Leroy Wilson of the Herb Shop in College Park will speak Friday at the August luncheon of the Friendly Thyme Herb Club at the Ferndale-Linthicum Senior Center, 7205 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd.

The lunch is scheduled at 11 a.m., followed by Wilson's talk and a business meeting to discuss the club's participation in the county fair and the garden tour scheduled Aug. 14, said Joan Krammes, president.

Mary Goode, who is coordinating the garden tour with Marge Smith, said club members will tour five gardens.

Ponds and many flower beds spread throughout a spacious lawn will be featured at the home of Marie Gish.

"It looks like House Beautiful," said Krammes, whose two herb gardens and woodland gardens also will be on the tour.

Lunch will be provided at the home of Marge Booker, who will show off the forest garden she has cultivated. The group also will visit the homes of Leslie Kowalewski, who has two ponds and an herb garden outside the kitchen door, and Amy Jameson, who has a herb garden.

Barbershop concert

The Patapsco Valley Heart of Maryland Chorus will perform barbershop favorites at 6 p.m. today at Linthicum Park, on Benton Avenue, as part of the summer concert series sponsored by the Woman's Club of Linthicum Heights.

Bring picnic suppers, blankets and chairs, if you wish. But leave alcoholic beverages at home.

The concert will be canceled if it rains.
