Police Blotter is a sampling of crimes in Baltimore and Baltimore County.

Baltimore City

Eastern District

Shooting: A man, 23, was shot in both legs and the head about 3: 40 p.m. yesterday in the 2400 block of E. Preston St. as he was locking his mother's car door. He was treated at Maryland Shock Trauma Center; his condition was not available last night. Detective Robin Reiland said as the victim fled, the gunman continued to shoot at him. The victim picked up a child who was in the line of fire and shoved him to safety in the doorway of a building.

Southern District

Theft: A diamond ring valued at more than $1,000 was stolen Friday from a house in the 2600 block of Alaska Court. The burglary was reported Saturday.

Northern District

Robbery: A man followed a couple into the lobby of an apartment building in the first block of W. University Parkway about 8 p.m. Saturday and robbed the woman of her purse containing cash and property, all valued at more than $350. The robber, who implied he had a handgun, fled after a struggle with the woman's companion.

Rape: A woman, 19, was in the 2600 block of Quantico Ave. about 10 p.m. Friday when she stopped a man who lived on the block and asked him for a drink of water. Inside the house, the man forced the woman to a second-floor bedroom and raped her. Later, the man was arrested and charged with rape. The woman was treated at Mercy Medical Center.

Burglary: A compact-disc player, 25 compact discs, a 5-inch-screen television and a radio, all valued at nearly $900, were stolen overnight Saturday from a house in the 300 block of E. 25th St.

Baltimore County

Towson Precinct

Robbery: After a woman, 27, accepted a ride from a man Saturday afternoon, he robbed her of money in the 8500 block of Loch Raven Blvd. A short time later, the man was found at the Ramada Inn in the 8700 block of Loch Raven Blvd., where police arrested him. Jesse Bayer, 21, of Covington, La., was charged with robbery, police said.

@Cockeysville Precinct

Robbery: A gunman stood outside the Burger King drive-in window in the 2000 block of York Road about midnight Saturday and ordered an employee to give him money from the cash

register. The gunman was seen driving in a maroon Buick Skylark driven by a second man.

Wilkens Precinct

Robbery try: After asking for a job application at 3rd Rock Video in the 100 block of Nunnery Lane about 1 p.m. Saturday, a man reached over the counter to take money from a cash register. When a female employee attempted to stop him, the man cut her on the arm with a sharp weapon. The man fled without taking any money, and the employee refused medical treatment.
