Pair elude police by deserting car after road chase

July 24, 1998|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Two men took police on a car chase from Howard County into Baltimore yesterday, refusing to stop even after blowing two tires, police said.

About 2: 15 p.m., Howard County police Officer George Greene tried to pull over a speeding Geo Prism on Montgomery Road, police said. The driver kept going, heading east to U.S. 1, then south to Route 32, then north on Interstate 95, police said.

The driver sped into Baltimore and tried to ram several police cars, despite driving on two tire rims at that point, police said.

The driver and passenger abandoned the car in the 1600 block of Filbert St. and ran into a home on Hazel Street, police said. Despite surveillance by a state police helicopter, the men were able to escape.
