Lacrosse profile

July 21, 1998|By Ryan Basen

Name: Jesper Antell

Team: Sweden

Position: Midfield/Attack

Age: 26

Birthplace: Stockholm

The skinny: Noticed lacrosse for the first time eight years ago while attending Middlebury High School in Vermont on an exchange program. "It looked like a great sport from the beginning, when I saw a couple kids with sticks throwing a ball around," he said. Antell played at Middlebury that year and joined the Swedish national team the next year, where he has remained. He now plays on the club team FALK and takes law classes at the University of Stockholm. He hopes to go into business law. Antell considers himself more of a physical player than a technical one, so he can use his 6-foot, 200-pound frame to his advantage.

Superstitions: Likes to think alone before games to keep himself focused and avoid an attack of nerves.
