Championships for men 35 and older, as well as those 45 and up, will be decided today at Homewood Field.

The '98 Grand Masters For those 45 and older

Finalists at a glance: Two U.S. teams, the Stars and Old Glory, are each 4-0 in a tournament that began with eight teams from the U.S., England, Australia and the Iroquois Nation.

When: 3: 15 p.m.

Players to watch: Hall of Fame goalie Cookie Krongard leads Old Glory, whose roster includes 10 Virginia alumni.

The Stars, coached by Kent Island resident Arlie Marshall, are led by attackman Chooch Turner, middie Doug Maynard, defenseman Morgan Ames and ex-Hopkins goalie Jon Weston.

The '98 Masters For players 35 plus

Finalists at a glance: Also an all-U.S. final. This game perpetuates a traditional rivalry -- Lax World, made up mostly of New Yorkers, vs. Sailin' Shoe, mostly Marylanders whose team name was inspired by the rock band Little Feat.

When: 5: 30 p.m.

Players to watch: Lax World, coached by STX president Dale Kohler, is led by ex-Terps goalie Kevin Bilger, attackman Gary Hanley and middies Peter Jenkins and John Tucker.

Sailin' Shoe, headed up by McDonogh coach (and Maryland alum) Jake Reed in goal, includes defenseman Steve Byrne (Virginia), attackman Bob Griebe (Towson), and midfielders Jeff Long (Navy) and Brendan Schneck (Hopkins).
