County Council to hold school funding hearing

TOMORROW, YOU may address the Anne Arundel County Council about school funding.

The council is holding a public hearing and then will vote on a resolution introduced by Diane Evans that urges the county executive to restore funding to the Board of Education in certain areas.

At issue is money being held in the chief administrative officer's contingency fund, including more than $5 million for renovation of Brooklyn Park Middle School. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Council chambers at the Arundel Center in Annapolis. If you want to speak, the sign-up sheet will be available at 6: 30 p.m.

New Cub Scout leader

Doug Wilson is the new Cub master of Cub Scout Pack 550.

He has been involved in Scouting for 29 years. He earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1979 and the Arrow of Light Award in 1972.

His son, Noah, is a Bear Cub in Den 4 and his son, Kyle, plans to be a Tiger Cub this fall.

Pack 550's ice cream social is being held at the Wilson home at 6 p.m. today.

The outgoing Cub master, Russ Bixler, his wife, Kim, and their two sons, Torey and Tyler, are moving to Hawaii at the end of the month.

At its annual recognition dinner June 1 at the Pasadena United Methodist Church, the Four Rivers Scouting District named the Bixlers the Scouting Family of the Year.

The pack will hold its annual planning and brainstorming meeting Aug. 11.
