Tutors Needed

Area schools, libraries and literacy programs use volunteers to help children or adults improve reading skills. Among them: Maryland New Directions, 2220 N. Charles St., to work with adult literacy classes for General Educational Development students. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 3: 30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Baltimore public schools, the YMCA, Action for the Homeless and the Office of Homeless Services, to help strengthen the academic skills of children living in shelters or from low-income families. Day camp at Montebello Elementary School for about 160 children needs volunteers and celebrities to read to children. Information: Gary Thornhill, 410-396-6506.
