Angels: Before getting swept by the A's in Anaheim on July 3-5 and losing both games this week, the Angels had won 14 of 15 against Oakland. Garret Anderson, who doubled twice, extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

Athletics: Center fielder Ryan Christenson made his first start since the All-Star break. He had been sidelined by a strained left hamstring. Right-hander Tim Worrell, obtained by the A's on Sunday in a trade with Cleveland, made his Oakland debut in the eighth inning.

Royals: Tim Belcher has allowed 22 homers, second in the AL to Charles Nagy's 26.

Tigers: Detroit plays its next 13 games against the Yankees, Red Sox and Indians, against whom they are a combined 2-12. Luis Gonzalez's homer ended an 0-for-13 skid.
