Rangers update

The Rangers (51-42) are one of the teams ahead of the Orioles (44-50) in the wild-card chase, though they've set their sights higher. They are a half-game behind first-place Anaheim in the AL West, despite three straight losses. The Rangers still lead the in team batting with a .287 average. They've won four of seven games between these teams, with Juan Gonzalez (12-for-31, 14 RBIs) being the catalyst. But he has been stuck on 101 RBIs for the season since the All-Star break. Ponson has faced the Rangers twice in relief, giving up four runs in 4 2/3 innings. Erickson has had bigger problems with the Rangers. He lasted only 2 2/3 innings April 17 and the Rangers beat him again on May 31, collecting seven runs. Sele was reached for five runs in 3 2/3 innings of a 6-3 loss on May 29. And Helling allowed five runs in 5 1/3 innings of a May 30 game won by Texas, 10-8.
