Brewers: Fernando Vina appeared to have an inside-the-park homer leading off the team's half of the first inning, but he was limited to a double because the ball rolled under the padding in right-center. After drawing 184,432 fans for a four-game series with the Cubs, Milwaukee drew 17,230 for Philadelphia's first visit to County Stadium since 1965.

Pirates: Tony Womack is 6-for-8 in his last two starts against the Cubs. He was 4-for-5 on July 5.

Cubs: Chicago is 6-14 in its last 20 road games. Reliever Tony Fossas, formerly of the Cardinals, made his first appearance since being called up from Triple-A Iowa.
