Blue Jays update

Toronto ended a three-game skid with a 7-2 win in Detroit yesterday. The Blue Jays (47-45) are in third place in the AL East, 21 1/2 games behind New York, 6 1/2 behind Boston and five games ahead of the Orioles. Only Tampa Bay (.256) had a lower team batting average than Toronto's .260 going into yesterday. Jose Canseco, returning to the lineup after being out with back spasms, is only 8-for-37 (.216) lifetime against Mussina. Mike Bordick is 14-for-36 (.389) lifetime against Guzman. Williams lost to the Orioles on June 20, allowing nine runs (six earned) and 11 hits in seven innings. The damage came one night after the clubs played 15 innings. These teams met seven times last month, with the Blue Jays winning four. Randy Myers has three '98 saves against his former team.
