Employers honor women for outstanding work

Twenty-eight county women, in professions including education, banking, business, health care, hospitality, utilities, media and government, have been chosen by their employers as honorees in the 13th annual TWIN awards program.

This year's TWIN honorees are: Patricia Bontempo, Anne Arundel Medical Center; Linda Bowman, Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp.; Kathleen Bye, Nationwide Insurance; Penny Cantwell, Crestwell Bank; Carole Coss, Severn School; Lysbeth Courtney, North Arundel Hospital and Health Systems; Barbara Duvall, Pusser's Landing, Annapolis Marriott Waterfront Hotel; Gloria Freed, Freed & Associates; Barbara Hale, YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County (nominated by Sturbridge Homes); Kathleen Happ, Anne Arundel Community College; and Nancy Thomas Hauswald, The Sun.

Crosby Marketing hires Davis as vice president

Ralph Crosby, president of Crosby Marketing Communications, has announced that Jeffrey A. Davis has joined the firm as vice president for integrated marketing. Davis will serve as a member of Crosby's senior management and lead account teams in creating public relations, media and interactive communications programs for a variety of the agency's clients.

BWI Business Partnership keeps Heffner as chairman

BWI Business Partnership Inc. named its board of directors for 1998-1999 during its recent annual meeting. Samuel F. Heffner (Airport Square) was re-elected chairman.

Other officers named during the meeting include: James J. Cannelli (Anne Arundel County Department of Planning and Code Enforcement), president; C. Lloyd Carpenter (Northrop Grumman Corp.), vice-chairman; Jay Hierholzer (Maryland Aviation Administration), treasurer; and James Piper III (O'Conor, Piper & Flynn-ERA), secretary.

Catherine S. Hill (National Security Agency) will serve as charter director ex officio. Named to serve as general directors were: Frank J. Guillot (TNT Logistics Inc.); James W. Kirscher (NationsBank); Richard H. Pettinghill (Casey/ONCOR International); Karen M. Price (Southwest Airlines); Richard J. Staub (Doubletree Guest Suites); and Beverly M. Wilhide (Office of the County Executive, Howard County).

In addition, the partnership chose Mark Behm (UMBC) and Milton H. Miller Sr. (Miller Corporate Real Estate) as advisers on higher education and transportation matters.

Neil N. Shpritz is the executive director of BWI Business Partnership, a nonprofit, public/private association of employers in and around the Baltimore-Washington International Airport business district that promotes the business climate and economic development potential of the region, advocates sound transportation and clean-air policies, and develops innovative commuter services in the area.

Names in the news

Lisa Dykes recently joined Crosby Marketing Communications as an accounting specialist. Dykes comes to Crosby from Rehabilitation Opportunities Inc., where she served as a comptroller for four years. A resident of Crofton, Dykes is completing her studies at Anne Arundel Community College for an associate degree in accounting.

The Crofton office of O'Conor, Piper and Flynn-ERA welcomes sales associate Cora Compton. Compton joins the firm's Crofton team and will be based at 1151 Route 3 North. A new licensee, Compton joins the firm after seven years in property management. She is a resident of Beltsville.

The Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp. was the recipient of a $2,000 grant from Wal-Mart for economic development efforts. Norah Arter, representing the Annapolis Sam's Club, presented Richard Morgan, president and chief executive officer of AAEDC, with a check for the final installment of Wal-Mart's $4,000 commitment to AAEDC.
