Samuel J. Cox, 64, Mars stores executive

Samuel J. Cox, comptroller and vice president of Mars Super Markets Inc., died June 29 at St. Joseph Medical Center after an aneurysm. He was 64.

The Baltimore native graduated from City College and from Loyola College, in 1957, and served in the Army Reserves.

He was married to the former Johanna Cherry.

He was employed by the accounting firm Ernst and Young of Baltimore and later became comptroller for Mars, where he was promoted to vice president several years ago.

An avid Orioles fan, he enjoyed watching televised sports. He cultivated a garden at his home in Lutherville.

A funeral Mass was offered Thursday.

In addition to by his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Jeanne Cox and Cherry Ann Cox, both of Delta, Pa.; and a grandson.
