Marlins update

The Marlins disarmed after becoming the first wild card to win a World Series last October. In what is certain to be the final year for manager Jim Leyland and general manager Dave rTC Dombrowski, the Marlins have become entrenched in last place in the NL East. Still, the Fish are 11-8 in their last 19 games and 6-4 in their last 10. Slowly the Marlins' bullpen has come into focus while the rotation remains a work in progress. Opponents ripped them for 10 runs or more 10 times in their first 57 games. In their past 24 games the Marlins have allowed more than five runs only five times. Left-handed hitters have pounded the Marlins at a .299 clip, which shouldn't be surprising given a right-handed rotation. The 28-53 Marlins have scored first in 45 games but won only 14 of them. World Series hero Edgar Renteria just enjoyed an 8-for-16 homestand and is 35-for-96 this month. Naturally, he is available for trade. Ex-Oriole Todd Zeile has four RBIs in his last 13 at-bats. The Marlins are 8-2 in Zeile's multi-hit games. Bonus points if you knew Vic Darensbourg, Matt Mantei and Kirt Ojala represent nearly half the Marlins' bullpen.
