The county liquor board has imposed $1,750 in fines on five merchants, including two in Eldersburg, for selling beer to underage police cadets last month.

In written decisions published this week, the Board of License Commissioners fined the owners of Serra Brothers Italian Deli in the 2000 block of Liberty Road in Eldersburg $500 because a 20-year-old cadet purchased a bottle of beer without a store clerk's checking his identification.

The board also imposed a $500 fine on the owners of Finksburg Liquors in the 3000 block of Gamber Road in Finksburg, where a 19-year-old cadet bought a bottle of beer.

In three other incidents, two 19-year-old cadets purchased six-packs of beer at Freedom Liquors in the 6300 block of Georgetown Blvd. in Eldersburg, Twin Arch Spirits in the 1000 block of Twin Arch Road in Mount Airy, and Country Liquors at the 140 Village Shopping Center in Westminster. Each was fined $250.

All five violations occurred May 8.
