Capt. James L. Hested will retire today as commanding officer of the Coast Guard's Curtis Bay yard after a 30-year
career in the service.
In a formal ceremony at the yard's Columbus Recreation Center, command of the facility on Curtis Creek, just south of the Baltimore border on Hawkins Point, will be assumed by Capt. Alan S. Gracewski, industrial manager there since August. Hested has been commander of the yard for six years.
