JUNE HAS NOT ended but people in northwest Carroll are planning big events in August.

Plans are being made for the third annual Celebrate Taneytown Festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 22 at Memorial Park.

The theme will again be the Civil War, and 500 re-enactors with 12 cannons are expected to attend.

Artisans representing forgotten arts such as broom making and soap making will have stands at the event.

Area groups will sell food, and games and activities will be provided for children.

Organizers anticipate larger crowds this year. Volunteers are needed to greet visitors, park cars and assist with crowd control.

Dash plaques will be provided to the first 150 registered cars and prizes will be presented.

Vendors and participants are being sought.
