June 23, 1998

Daniel M. Billig, president of the board of Action for the Homeless, has been elected chairman of the Center for Poverty Solutions.

The group is to be created July 1 when Action for the Homeless merges with the Maryland Food Committee. The center plans to more efficiently fight "the root causes of poverty" and supports an all-purpose resource center for the poor in downtown Baltimore.

Howard Weiss, who has been chairman of the committee's board, will be first vice chairman. Sharon Credit, an Action board member, will be vice chairman for public policy. Robert V. Hess will be the center's president and chief executive officer.
