Blue Jays update

The Blue Jays were swept three straight by expansion Tampa Bay, all three times squandering a lead. On Tuesday, former Oriole Randy Myers coughed up three runs in the ninth to take the loss, raising his ERA to 4.13. The Blue Jays took two of three from the Orioles last weekend at SkyDome. Carpenter pitched just two-thirds of an inning, leaving after being hit on the knuckle by a liner from Rafael Palmeiro. Myers had two saves in the series, though he surrendered a homer to Palmeiro. The Blue Jays reached Johns for three runs in three innings of relief last Saturday, then ruined Smith's Orioles debut the next night with six runs and 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings. The Blue Jays have a league-worst .253 team batting average. They were 8-12 in games started by a left-hander, 26-25 vs. right-handers.
