Carnival in Harney starts Monday

THE LAST OF the carnivals to hit northwest Carroll starts Monday at the Harney Volunteer Fire Company grounds on Harney Road, near the Pennsylvania line.

One-price ride nights will be held from 7 p.m. to 10: 30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Platters will be served nightly in the air-conditioned hall, and pizza, pit beef, ice cream and other goodies will be sold around the grounds.

Live entertainment is planned nightly, and the $3,000 raffle prize will be drawn the final day, June 27.

Strawberry festival

Don't forget Linwood Brethren Church's strawberry festival from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday on the tree-shaded church grounds.

Strawberry milkshakes, berries and ice cream, and shortcake will be featured, with sandwich platters and baked goods.

The festival will include craft and white elephant tables, wagon rides and children's games. Cake walks will be held. Everyone who doesn't win the big cake will get a cupcake.

The Nicholes Sisters, a trio from New Windsor, will sing a cappella gospel from 3: 30 p.m. to 4: 30 p.m., then the Alesia Band will perform at 5 p.m.

Bible schools

Area churches are starting Vacation Bible Schools.

Taneytown Baptist Church, 4150 Sells Mill Road, will have Space Mission Bible Camp from 6: 45 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through June 26.

The camp is for children ages 3 through fourth grade, and campers are encouraged to bring a friend.

Uniontown Bible Church will have its Bible school from 6: 45 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 20-24. Registration begins at 6: 15 p.m. July 20.

The school is open to children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Campers receive a T-shirt.

Campers should be registered in advance by sending the camper's name, address, age, phone number, next year's school class and T-shirt size to the church, 321 Clear Ridge Road, Union Bridge 21791.

VFW dinners

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8806 on Penrose Avenue in Union Bridge will offer dinners from 5 p.m. to 8: 30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Friday's meal is stuffed pork chops for $8.75, while Saturday's is prime rib dinner for $9.75.

Teen talent

The Taneytown branch library is having a "Teen Talent Night" for performers ages 11 to 18 at 7 p.m. June 25.

Audience members of all ages (younger than age 5 must be with an adult) also are needed. Registration for performers and audience members is being taken.
